Quick Read: How to Enable the GitHub Command Palette

Introduction:

Do you have a tool you use to make your workday flow smoother? For me, this is the command palette from GitHub. I find myself reaching for it like Luffy from One Piece; whenever I need to navigate and execute commands.

The other day, when I went to use it, I found out GitHub had removed it, or so I thought. Cue the dramatic music, “Nooooooooo!”. Did GitHub take it away?

After digging, I discovered it wasn’t gone, just slightly hidden. According to GitHub’s documentation, this feature is now deactivated by default.

If you’re trying to figure out how to turn this feature on, don’t worry I got your back. If you are someone who doesn’t understand the benefits of using the command palette, it can boost your efficiency. I encourage you to give it a try.

Below I have listed the steps to get it up and running.

Steps:

1. Login into GitHub

2. Click on your profile picture in the top-right corner.

3. Navigate to “Feature Preview” and click on it.

4. Select the ‘Command Palette’ option and then click ‘Enable.’
